A gifted trumpet player, Rich spent four years traveling with the international musical road show, Up With People. Musical tours included concerts in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. Later as a concert promoter, Monroe used multi-media public relations and marketing techniques to achieve 90 percent sell-out ratios for a dozen concert assignments at venues such as Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheater and The Anaheim Convention Center in Los Angeles.
As an advance spokesman for Up With People, Monroe gave frequent on-camera interviews. The road inspired him to seek a long-term career in broadcasting and after earning a bachelor of Arts degree at Eastern Washington University he immediately began employment as an advertising account executive at KVEW-TV Channel 42 in Kennewick, Washington.
His portfolio includes a broad range of commercial television, video and film productions including real estate home shows, television commercials, public service announcements, corporate videos, promotional videos, and live and live-on-tape telecasts. He edited two award winning independent short films and one independent full-length feature film on his AVID Media Composer® and transitioned seven years ago to Apples Final Cut Pro®. Monroe is a skilled television producer, writer, director, interviewer, videographer, editor and digital compressionist.
In 2005 Rich Monroe was employed by Skagit County Washington and charged to build a local government access television station from the ground up. When he left the county at the end of 2009, Skagit-21 had an on-air playback schedule including both horizontal and vertical day-parts packed with 12 hours of fresh programming per week PLUS on-demand program access through the county web-site—given it’s market size, virtually unheard of volume and quality for a government access channel.
